The methods section gives a brief description of the project and what methods were used. It does not explain the design and analysis of the questionnaire used. This is also because the statistical methods used was not included. The limitation section points out that the numbers in this study are small and that it is not generalizable.
The authors could have included more details in the discussion. They could have discussed the possibility of bias in choosing such a small sample. They could have explained whether the findings in this study will lead to changes in adolescents reproductive health or even the game. I could not find any references to where these changes will come from (I have not played the game).
The author highlights the importance of reducing FGM in the young girls by encouraging them to learn cricket. Why are the girls playing cricket? It is not explained. There is a link between the practice of FGM and the girls' interest in cricket. Cricket is a traditional game in many parts of Africa. It is popular in Kenya as well.
A history of FGM is presented in two slides including a map of Africa and an anthropological map of Kenya. The map depicts the practice of FGM in the past (before 1990) compared to current practices. The map suggests that the practice has decreased over the past years. It is a very small sample size of data and is suspect. (see 'Limitations' below)
The author cites one study that shows that FGM is still common with 40 percent of girls reporting that they had been subjected to the practice. Regardless of religion, the practice is prevalent.
However, and as noted, it is unlikely that long term studies will be able to demonstrate whether a sex ratio bias in favor of girls results in a lasting upward shift in economic and educational opportunities for girls.
